Venice Architecture history course
Venice Architecture history Course
is aimed to all those who, parallel with studying Italian language want to learn about Venetian culture investigating its architectural and urban structure. We are going to explain why the city was constructed “on water”, which consequences this particular choice had on Venice’s development from establishment until present day.
During the Venice architecture history course we will cover the following topics:
- The development of territorial tissue.
- The analysis of the layout and the characteristics of a typical Venetian palace and the study of some specific architectures including Saint Mark’s Basilica, The Dodge’s Palace, the Rialto bridge etc
About development of territorial tissue, we point out that of the historical center but also the development of the whole lagoon and the mainland, with a particular reference to the city’s toponymy.
We will learn about some of the most influential individuals that marked the Venetian architectural scene such as the great sixteenth-century masters Andrea Palladio and Jacopo Sansovino.
The intention of this course is not to transmit only historical and technical notions related to city’s architecture, but rather to illustrate the connection between the unique urban form, the history, the ways of life and the characteristic territory in which Venice stands.
The course is held by architects graduated at University IUAV of Venice, living in Venice who know the city very well both from the architectural and the social point of view.
The lessons are itinerant, discovering step by step Venice and its architectural peculiarities.
